What is LoVe???
Is it just liking someone,a person's wants- "Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired"-Mark Twain, something without which life is incomplete. There are many ways of looking at it.The nightingale's story is a perfect example of true love.Isn't true love when u give whatever you have(even if it is your life) without expecting the other person to reciprocate. But it's better to let her be where she is,in a story and not in this unreal world. In today's fast paced selfish world there is no place for true, pure love. But at times I wonder is love the purpose of life,is it the greatest thing one must experience in life or are there even greater things and dreams to be fulfilled.Love doesn't mean just loving a person, one can love their country, their pet(i may sound weird) there are so many forms of love, which we humans NEVER bother to spare a thought to(reminds me of Bhagat Singh who said"my bride is freedom").It's sad to see how humans use love as an instrument to manipulate people to fulfill their selfish desires.
Q1.Is the nightingale naive?
NO.
I think the nightingale portrays a TRUE lover. One who gives without wanting anything in return. She believed in true love and therefore sacrificed her precious life. But she couldn't judge the student properly. If he needed a rose so badly, he could have made an effort to go look for one instead of crying(he's a lover who lost half way through the battle because he was not determined enough)whereas the nightingale fulfilled her duty of being a true lover.I would call her naive if she would be actually living in this unreal world.
Q2.Does the nightingale appeal to you?
YES,she does.
I would like to be like her in a way.Her love is PURE and it's hard to find this kind of unadulterated love. She gave away her life for what she believed in(in this case her love towards the STUPID student).
Q3.Who do you resemble the most and why?
I thought alot about this question and i came to the conclusion that I kind of resemble the nightingale in Oscar Wilde's story the most(reason to this is at the end).
Definitely not the frog because he was too shrewd, selfish, extremely mean, bad at heart.
Not the gullible nightingale because she got easily fooled by the frog. But at the same time she was ambitious too otherwise why would she accept the frog as her master(she wanted to be even better).
Not the stupid student whose world begins and ends at metaphysics.Neither am i like the materialistic daughter whose world revolves around jewels and money. Both of them are similar in a way, they don't look at the big picture , what life's about instead they are so entangled in their daily life(like most of us).
Finally, my explanation to why I think I kind of resemble the nightingale :
I think she did what she believed in and after all she did something great.Even I want to do something great like that maybe sacrifice my life for my country but I'll NEVER sacrifice my life for a person I love because I know I wont love anybody that much, and anyway humans don't deserve that kind of love. And even if I do love somebody that much (IF I do),I wouldn't show it because somewhere down the line even i am a selfish human and would expect to be given that kind of love in return. To survive in this world you have to change yourself even if your soft from inside.
